Economy Plus on United

Does anyone know what bathrooms the Ecoomy plus passengers get to use on a Boeing 767-300, UA from EWR to LHR? I hope it's the front ones but I'm wondering if those are reserved for 1st class.

Also I read some old posts that those seats, even when you pay for them ahead of time, might be given to other passengers. Is this true?

We are on United economy plus 767 FCO to Dulles- the bathrooms for us are to the rear. Am told they curtain off the bathrooms directly in front of Economy plus, hence I moved my seat further back. I have not heard of the second part of your question. But I would just guess that one scenario might be bulkhead seats when someone has an infant. I have economy plus for the pond crossing portions. Be sure to recheck your flights periodically for changes. We had one part change our seats in economy when they changed the plane type after the ticket purchase. The Captain of the plane can move anyone he wants where he wants, including congressmen removed from flights, its his plane and he is responsible. Weight and balance as well as other unforeseen circumstances arise. The purchase has limits.

No, you don't use first/business class - still coach. The only time you might lose an E+ seat is change of equipment and seats are not available but you get a refund. If you pay for the seat it is yours.

The only thing Economy + gets you on United is the couple inches extra leg room. Everything else, in my experience anyway, is still economy regular.

The others are correct, they are in the rear. I often fly United and I have flown this route many times. I've never been asked to change my seat except once. The flight had so few passengers the cabin crew asked us to spread out at take off and landing. After we were airborne, they allowed us to take the seats we reserved. IMO, Economy Plus is worth the extra cost. I usually purchase Economy Plus and a few days before departure, check the price to upgrade to Business Class. If there is little demand, the price can be quite low.

The bulkhead seat may be given to a person that may need that extra room due to a handicap. My husband travels with a guide dog and we are able to request those seats so the guide dog has more room. It is especially needed for a flight to Europe. My husband is able to use the restroom in the front because it is easier for him to navigate but once I was reminded to use the one in the back as the front is for first class.

While it is true that you can't use the first/business class toilets the wide body planes have plenty of them mid ship so no need to walk all the way back. I do as it's often the only exercise I get. The room you get for the upgrade is worth it. Giving away seats: as other posters noted, schedule and equipment changes can create this. We were re-routed flying home from Madrid last summer on United. Instead of connecting in DC we connected in Newark. Good news: we were upgraded to first/business from Madrid. Bad news: we lost our Economy Plus seats (two of four) on the next leg. I filed a complaint and was refunded the amount I paid for the entire upgrade, more than adequate compensation.

A look at the 767 (wide body) layout on seatguru, that United uses for the EWR-LHR run shows the toilets all the way in the back for those in economy, plus or not.
The bulkhead seats have attachments for baby cribs, so often families with infants get those seats.

I stand corrected I flew back from Madrid on a different aircraft.

When flying E+ on United, we were asked if we would relinquish our bulkhead seats to a couple with an infant. I refused. My admittedly uncharitable attitude was that those folks knew they had a baby. They should have paid the bucks to reserve the seats they needed, not expect others to give way to them. The flight attendant went on to try to find another place for them; and we heard no more. I don't know if she found them a spot or if they had to hold that baby for the trans-Atlantic flight.

I'm a little confused... jvb and Sam say if you have a disability or a baby, the bulkhead seats may be given to them. Does that mean that someone could reserve and pay for bulkhead but when boarding, those seats are given, last minute, to someone with a disability or a baby?
Why isn't the person with a disability or a baby required to reserve bulkhead when booking the flight? Seems very unfair to the person who did.

When I reserve tickets I call immediately to reserve the bulkhead due to the guide dog. It was a policy of airlines to not open the bulkhead seats until 24 hours before a flight in order to have them available for persons with disabilities. A couple years ago that changed. Seats in bulkhead were being sold ahead of time with the proviso it may be given to someone with a disability. With Alaska Airlines, they would block the bulkhead for their mileage award customers. It became a problem for a disabled person to reserve the bulkhead because it would show all the bulkhead seats were reserved months in advance when they really weren't. I was told to show up at the airport and then a seat change would be made. This was a very poor way of doing things. Alaska has since revised this process so once again a disabled person can reserve bulkhead in advance. I do not know the process for reserving with an infant and a bassinet but could it be the bassinet was reserved and there was a lack of communication by the airlines to communicate to the person who purchased the bulkhead seat?

Generally they will not force a move for a bassinet or baby, they may ask but there are no regulatory requirements regarding that. That's why if you are traveling with a baby and want one of these you need to call ASAP and start working on it. Waiting until you get to the plane probably isn't a good idea.

However, for someone with special needs you can be asked to move. Like the guide dog above. There are some FAA regulations governing the required accommodations.

Some airlines are more restrictive. I just booked PE on Virgin Atlantic and the Bulkhead in both that cabin and coach is blocked.

On British Air, bulkhead in PE was always blocked on my fights. This time I am on United and bought PE bulkhead going O'Hare to Frankfurt, none of bulk heads were blocked, and on PE there is no bassinett symbol in PE bulkhead, only E has the symbol. So I wondered why they left it off the diagram in PE. I have traveled with an infant but we had a seat for him paid for in economy. I kept him in his car seat, At the end of the flight folks thanked me for the quiet baby. However I am older now and would prefer to see them pay for a seat for the infant as I did. So I don't plan to give up something reserved back in Sept.

MJ and others following- I called CSR at UA re bulkhead seat reservations. United has bulk head seats in the center aisle, as well as a few others, already blocked which appear to you or I as reserved(taken) on our viewing screen, but they are empty and held for need based passengers, disability. I was assured my side row bulkhead E+ reservation that I paid for is safe, its not one they hold for this use.
The bassinet issue is not guaranteed to anyone traveling with a child on their lap(under two Y.O.). They are required to call a minimum of 24 hours ahead to request a bassinet seat but they aren't guaranteed it.

Thanks everyone for explaining... If I reserved and paid for a bulkhead seat, I'd be furious if my seat was given to someone else within 24 hrs of a flight.
