Can anyone tell me if the dimensions for carry on baggage on Ryan Air are the same as those on our North American airlines?
You could find that information on their website.
Absolutely not - and neither is their customer service the same as enjoyed with other airlines. Beware of Ryanair!
John the no frill airlines have smaller dimension and weights. They restrict a lot more than AA, Delta, etc. When I took EasyJet my 19" suitcase had to be checked in. When I got onboard, I realized why. They pack you in like sardines. My (school size) backpack barely fit under the seat!
Ryan has a lot of restrictions, which is why they can charge the insane cheap prices. They'll nickel and dime you so just read and be informed before buying.
Actually, Nancie is incorrect. Their carry-on baggage maximum is 55cm x 40cm x 20cm or 21.65in x 15.74in x 7.87 in., which is comparable to North American regulations. However, there can be a difference in weight. Ryanair's weight limit for a carry-on is 10 kg (22 lbs). AA's is 18 kg (40 lbs!) while AirCan's is 10 kg (22 lbs). British security regulations allowed only ONE carry on, not one carry on plus one personal item. Those regulations have now been eased, but many British airports and airlines (including Ryanair), have decided not to revert back...at least not yet.
Btw, as has been noted before, do not expect to get away with anything that violates RyanAir's baggage policies. They make a good amount of their $ charging fees for it and believe me they will.
