EasyJet Review

We flew from Nice to Venice this past August on EasyJet, which we had never flown on before.

I was bit nervous as EasyJet is classified as a “discount” airline.

We booked the flight online 3-4 months prior to the journey. Website and app is super easy to use. Prices were reasonable. $150 for one way fare.

But then We had to change the departure time from 11:30 to 8:30 am - that cost us $50 each.

We also paid $35 to check-in our bags, as they probably would not have fit the overhead bins.

On the day of the flight, everything went smooth. They start checking in at the counter 2 hrs before departure - precisely. We had arrived at 6 am - and they made us wait till 6:30.

After that, everything went smoothly. Plane seemed relatively new - Flight departed on time, crew was friendly etc

So overall, a positive experience. Would recommend - but be prepared to pay for changes and baggage ( which is the case for most airlines anyways)

I flew EasyJet a few years ago from Venice to Naples. Totally uneventful (and positive) experience. Would fly them again.

We have always liked and preferred EasyJet. Like all discounts they do have rules that need to be follow. Changing for $50 to change is probably cheap. Not sure you could do that on SW in the US. How many bags for $35? Did you pay in advance or at the gate?

We aso flew EasyJet from Nice to Venice this year, and it was fine. We paid extra for early boarding and an extra carry-on, and it was worth it. We also had to make a change, but since we were reacting to a schedule change they had made, the charge was minimal - about €5, I think. I don't remember the details.

I used them yesterday. Quick bag drop at London Gatwick. All paperless ticketing. The flight was 80% full. We arrived 10 minutes early. The checked bag arrived safely.

You pay for food and drinks on most airlines within Europe these days. I ate at Gatwick so didn’t need anything on board.

We purchased the baggage allowance before reaching the airport, since I had read that its more expensive at the check-in counter.

Also, forgot to mention, when we booked the tickets we spent an additional $34-40 for selecting the seats

exactly! From Nice getting to Milan or Venice by train was taking up most of our day. Which is why we chose to fly.

We boarded at 8:30 am in Nice and by 11:00 am landed in Venice. Could not be easier!

If I recall correctly on Air France , there were no direct flights.

@frank ~$35 per checked in bag. we were 4 of us “backpacking” - 1 carry one type suitcase that fit easily as carry in on our outbound flight and a back pack. For this leg we checked in all the suitcases.

This was a 737(?) type aircraft and the overhead bins were definitely smaller than the ones I have seen on domestic flights. So glad to have avoided the hassle after boarding etc.

Steve,

I'm not surprised to hear of your positive experience with EasyJet. I've always had good luck with them so it's my preferred budget airline in Europe. I usually pay for the advance seat selection / speedy boarding and find that it makes the experience much more pleasant.

Been using Easyjet for many years 8 flights with them this year so far and no problems, good on time flights ,nothing fancy but gets you where you want to go. Prices for carry on and hold luggage varies depending what you want to take and lenth of flight but all reasonable when you take overall prices into account.

I too have flown EasyJet many times over the years.

You just have to pack light and follow the rules posted on their website.

What I like is that I can visit my primary destination in Europe and catch EasyJet to virtually anywhere cheap. I can go to somewhere like Munich and fly out of Portugal on my return--or Copenhagen. They allow me to take in two completely different travel experiences.

As I posted early we have flown EasyJet many times with min problems. The one problem was mostly our fault for not reading the fine print close enough. We were flying into London and continuing to Edinburgh on two separate tickets. We know the risk and have done it a number of times and it worked because we allow ourselves a five hour or more window to make the next flight. On this trip we bought the EJ's flight insurance just in case but didn't pay a lot of attention to the fine print. It finally caught up with us. Our original flight from the US was cancelled. Got hold of EJ via web site and cancelled our on-going flight. It took three days to get re-booked on Lufthansa. Lufthansa offered, at no addition charge, to gets us to Edinburgh via Frankfurt so we took it.

On returning home we applied for what we thought would be a refund under the insurance only to learn that it was a one year credit. They did refund the taxes and some fees for about a third of the ticket price. Now we read the cancellation insurance fine print a little more carefully.
