EasyJet: carryon and check in baggage question

Hi, I've read the the baggage restriction on easyjet. I think I understand, but I just want to double check and reconfirm. Easyjet says "one standard piece of hand baggage to maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm." Does "55x40x20cm" only apply to the carryon baggage? or does the restriction apply to check in baggage as well?

Also, I'm planning to have one carryon and one check in baggage. So maximum combined weight for the two baggage would be 20kg? is that correct?

Thanks!

Hand baggage and checked baggage are two separate things. The dimension limitations are only for hand baggage. The maximum weight you mention is for checked lugage.

And Jenny, when Easyjet says "one" carryon, they mean one! No additional handbag, purse, camera bag!

I took a couple of EasyJet flights last month. It took a while to board because the gate agents made many passengers put their luggage in this "baggage fit checker" or whatever you call them. If your bag doesn't fit in the checker, then you'll have to check it in.

They only allow one carry on as stated, however, it seems unevenly applied. We have been on EasyJet flights and my wife has been told at chack in to put her purse in her carryon. She usually ignores this and often gets onto the plane OK, but sometimes is stopped at the gate to put it inside. We did see a couple of young girls with four back packs between them being stopped and they had to check them at the gate. I do not know what it cost them, but they were certainly quite put out about it. As were the people in line behind them!

One good thing is that there is no weight restriction on the carry on, but unfortunately you cannot put your liquid toiletries in there unless they are under the 100 cc limit.

Marlene said they sometimes put your bag into a size checker. How often does this happen? I am thinking about using a 40 liter hiking backpack as a carry on luggage. Technically, it's bigger than 55x40x20cm. If you just look at it, it looks a bit longer than a standard carry on but definitely "in the ball park". Do you think I will get caught?

Last question: No one, here, can predict this. These type airlines make significant income from, and are well known for, enforcing their rules about baggage and carry-on issues. More strict than domestic flights here.

But you will still read postings from people who say "we got away with it."

How lucky do you feel?
