We are a family of four flying easyJet from Nice to Paris Orly and catching a second flight from Paris Orly to Barcelona. We arrive at Paris Orly at 10:30 and the flight to Barcelona departs at 11:55, which gives us 1 1/2 hours between flights. Unfortunately, after booking the flights, I realized that the check in desk closes 4o minutes before the scheduled departure. This means we have only 45 minutes from the flight arriving from Nice to the check in for flight departing for Barcelona. It seems our only chance of checking in for the Barcelona flight on time is by hand checking our baggage. The easyJet check in baggage requirements(55 x 40 x 20cm) when converted to inches is roughly: 21.7 x 15.7 x 7.9". Many of the suitcases I have looked at are listed as 21 x 15 x 8. Since this is bigger than the 7.9"restriction, would easyJet consider this too large to carry on and if so, what are the consequences? Do they charge for oversize baggage, do they check the baggage or do they not allow you to board the plane with the baggage?
The 9 x 21 x14 bag would also fall within the maximum limits. This is the size of my bag and it easy stores in all overhead compartments.
If your bag is judged to be too big to qualify for carry on, from my reading of the baggage page on the easyJet site it looks like you would be required to check it at no charge. (Charges are applied for excess weight.) However, I agree that your only chance of making your connection is to have carry on luggage only. Why not play it safe and call Customer Service and ask about the 0.1 cm difference? Dial 011 (US international access code) + 44 (UK country code) + (0)871 244 2366. Omit the initial zero which is only used for calls originating in the UK.
The 21 x 15 x 8 is acceptable for easyJet. It's only a conversion factor and you can carry on.
I was under the impression that Easy Jet will only allow one carry on and that includes a purse ect....
Thanks for the speedy replies. The information has been very helpful. I noticed at Rick Steves On Line Travel Store, they sale a carry on with the dimensions 9 x 21 x 14. Would this be within the requirements set by easyJet? It is an inch deeper than the maximum requirement but it is approximately 1 1/2" less in width than the maximum requirement. Does easyJet care more about the specific dimensions or the overall dimension? I appreciate any input. I need to decide whether I should keep the reservations as scheduled and hand carry our baggage or if this isn't feasible I need to change the tickets to fly out from Paris Orly a day later.
EasyJet's website lets you change reservations. It may cost you a significant chunk more, but you wouldn't need to hurry or hope the plane isn't late at all. Also, you can check in online with EasyJet as well, so you could check in for the Orly-Barcelona flight before you ever left Nice. In fact, I believe EasyJet lets you check in 30 or 60 days early!
