Easy Jet Advice

I have never taken a flight mid-trip to reach another part of Europe. But, next June, my husband & I will be going to London. When he flies home, I will be flying farther east to join the RS Adriatic Tour. When the tour finishes in Dubrovnik, I will fly to Amsterdam (seeing a friend) and the next day fly home.

I'm planning to use flight credit from Delta for the Spokane-to-London & the Amsterdam-to-Spokane flights.

For London-to-Ljubljana & Dubrovnik-to-Amsterdam, I am planning to use Easy Jet for the first time.

One option is to buy a "Cabin Zero" under-the-seat bag as my one suitcase for my Easy Jet to/from flights for the RS Adriatic tour. It's designed to fit the Easy Jet dimensions. Has anyone run into issues on Easy Jet trying to fit their under seat bag into that space? (I've had some skinny under-the-seat spaces on US planes depending on how the supports are dividing the floor space.) I did cut a cardboard box into those dimensions, and I am able to get everything essential into those dimensions.

The second option is to pay extra and just bring my regular carry-on suitcase. Do the prices of the Easy Jet flights fluctuate, i.e. any advantage to not purchasing the two flights now if I did decide to pay extra for my regular carry-on suitcase and sit in an exit row?

Thanks! Appreciate hearing your experiences!

Hi Jean,
I flew EasyJet when I visited Sicily (2018) and I opted to pay extra which allowed me to board early and to take a personal (under seat) item plus my carry-on roller (20 inch)

I’d suggest booking your flights in advance, as prices will only increase as the date to your trip gets closer.

Enjoy your trip!

Just pay the extra, it is still not that much, and it will be so much less hassle.

And as Priscilla said, on EasyJet prices only go up.

EasyJet’s baggage policy has changed since Covid - the dimensions have shrunk. You can get relatively little in the new size.

We are currently in Spain c/o EasyJet. We had a piece each of the “Cabin zero” bags which we put in the overhead bins, as it was only an 80% full flight. We also had one checked bag between us weighting 20 kgs. I never bother paying for seat selection - checking in online a month before the flight has always secured the window and middle seat on all but one flight. People are abiding by the new sizes and boarding was definitely much quicker as a result of not having issues trying to squash lots of large bags into the overhead bins.

The prices of EasyJet flights do vary very occasionally but they generally trend upward. They are sometimes cheaper over Christmas, but they weren’t last year, with people back to travelling. If sales are down, they sometimes have a sale to summer beach destinations.

I am waiting for EasyJet to release their next batch of flight dates as you can only book until the end of September - I will be booking my annual trip here as soon as they are released.

In your circumstances, I would pay to take the larger piece of hand luggage as it’s amazing what a difference a few inches makes to what you can take. If you know your dates, book now.

Also sometimes with EasyJet, I wait to add my baggage -- the price for that goes up, too (i.e. it's cheapest to add bags right when you purchase your ticket; the closer you get to your flight, the more expensive it gets to add a bag, although you can do it, and of course it's the most expensive if you wait until you are at the airport. But sometimes I need the flexibility because I haven't decided exactly what I am doing yet.

I do as Priscilla does. I pay for the seats that allow me to bring my carry-on bags on board, but do be aware that Easy Jet is very strict about the size.

We choose to pay and check-in all our bags, except back-packs. So glad we did that. Space in overhead bin and under the seat was tight.

The price of the ticket was cheap enough to pay a bit more for baggage

Thank you everyone for the quick replies! I will go ahead and buy the two Easy Jet tickets today, including paying to have my carry on suitcase overhead and my small daypack at my feet.

We were going to take that tour this year, and had it booked for awhile, including air, but then we had to cancel our trip for a reason covered by our trip insurance. Our flight itinerary was open jaw ORD-VCE and AMS-ORD. Those flights were on Delta Skymiles. We were going to spent two nights in Venice, then use Go Opt shuttle to get to Ljubliana, and on the other end of the trip, we booked an Easy Jet one way flight to get from Dubrovnik to Amsterdam, where we'd have a two night stay prior to our non-stop flight home. After we canceled, all the Skymiles were returned to our account, the fees refunded, and our insurance reimbursed us for what we'd paid for the Easy Jet flights.

Now we are re-scheduling the tour for 2023 and I've been playing with the airfare options and am reminded of how hard it is to get home from Dubrovnik. This time, my husband prefers to go right home after the tour and not add on Amsterdam days. We can do an open jaw ORD-VCE and DBV-ORD, booking on Delta and flying on its partner Air France. Those are paid tickets as we apparently can't use Skymiles if Dubrovnik is in the itinerary. However, the flights home from Dubrovnik all have two stops and flight itineraries in the range of 29 hours 49 minutes to 36 hours! If it's going to take that long to get home, we might as well go back to the idea of taking an Easy Jet flight up to Amsterdam and flying home from there on a non-stop Delta flight.

I'm curious about your plan. Are you going to arrive in Amsterdam via Easy Jet on the same day that your Delta flight takes you home to Spokane? Or are you building in a safety net by getting up to Amsterdam via Easy Jet, staying overnight, and flying out of AMS the next day? So that you don't miss your international flight if the Easy Jet flight is canceled or delayed?

For the Easy Jet flight we canceled this year, we booked in mid-November of 2021, for flights to occur in early June of 2022, paid a base price of $37.49 each for the tickets, then paid $24.99 per person to get "up front seats" because (as I recall) those came with the ability to put a bag in the overhead bin, and we also paid $40.49 to have one checked bag.

Hi Vickie, I understand your frustration with trying to find a reasonable flight plan over there & back. I had planned a nice itinerary for my husband & I to visit Slovenia & Croatia several years before I was retired. We lived near Seattle at that time, and the logistics for the flights were just too complicated with limited time.

Now that we’re retired it’s a different story. My flight I purchased this afternoon is the Easy Jet from Dubrovnik to Amsterdam the day the tour ends. I will stay overnight near the airport and fly on Delta the next day back to Seattle and onto Spokane. Or, I might add one more day in Amsterdam if I decide to add a little more buffer and either go back to Delft or a museum in Amsterdam. If there’s delays on the first flight, I don’t want to miss the expensive flight.

Jean, we're on the Oct. 1 tour for 2023. If we can find an Easy Jet flight that is early in the day, I'll probably book just one night in Amsterdam. If for some reason the EJ flight is canceled, I'd have the rest of the day to make other arrangements to get to AMS from DBV. But last minute flights could be hard to find, require us to route ourselves through another city, and/or be expensive. Two nights in Amsterdam feels more comfortable. After your trip, I'd love to hear from you as to how the Easy Jet leg worked out for you. I've never flown on that airline before.
