After booking a flight leaving out of Rome Fiumicino airport at 6:15am on a Wednesday, I became aware that trains out of Termini station don't run early enought to catch our flight. We are staying near the Vatican. Any transportation options to the airport would be appreciated? Inexpensive, preferably. Thank you!

Hi Viki.....we were in Rome in June 2006 and originally planned to take the train from Termini to Fiumicino as well. We ended up hiring a car before we left for Italy through Romaclick.com. Register on line, get a confirmation number and pay the driver cash upon arrival at the airport. The car was at our hotel right on schedule the day of departure and we were at the airport in plenty of time, no problem. Flat fare was 48 euro although it has likely increased now. Hope this helps. :)

We faced a similar situation last summer with our two sons. There is no inexpensive solution and really only one solution - a hired car or taxi. Our sons opted for a late night in Rome and caught the last train at one or one thirty. And that is an inexpensive solution.

Thank you all so much for the time it takes to reply. It is greatly appreciated. I ran across a bus service called COTRAL that might run buses at 1:15am, 2:30am, 3:45am & picks up at a stop called Rome Ostiense (sp?) but I couldn't find anything definitive. As it stands, we're actually changing our departure to fly out of Stuttgart Germany at 10:30am & not go into Italy because transportation issues became such a cost-prohibitive & time-consuming problem. Again, thank you all. There are a lot of fabulous people out there who enjoy sharing the travel knowledge they've gleaned on their adventures.

I hope you're not saying that you're cancelling your plans to visit Italy just becasue of one pesky 6am flight out of FCO?

I knew if I searched long & hard enough...if I need something, other people have needed it, too. There is a night bus from Tiburtina station & Termini station that goes to Rome FCO; leaving around :30, 1:15, 2:30, 3:45, 5:00. Costs $5.40-$7.00 depending on which website you look at & takes about 45 minutes; operated by Cotral. Now we all know. Happy travels.
