My husband and I will be making our first trip to Europe this summer. On our way home we have a 6:30 am flight out of Florence into Frankfort for a connecting flight home. The information with the ticket says we need to be at the airport 3 hours before the flight. Is that true or would we be safe showing up closer to the flight time? If we can show up closer to the flight time, what would be a safe amount of time to leave? Thanks!
Pat
Hi Pat. People will have different opinions. If it were me, I would plan to be at the airport between 5 and 5:15.
Florence to Frankfurt is a domestic EU flight and there won't be anything open at 3:30am. Florence's airport (assuming you mean the one actually outside of Florence and not Florence-Pisa) is tiny. I think it has 4 gates total. I would say 5am is adequate, especially if you can do online check-in and/or don't have to check many bags.
Thanks Bob and Liz. 5 sounds much better than 3:30! I would have never thought of Florence to Frankfort as "domestic." And we are flying out of Florence which we had heard was tiny.
Pat
You said you were flying to Frankfort. Did you mean Frankfort, KY, which is by no means a domestic flight, or did you mean Frankf urt am Main, Germany, which is considered a domestic flight?
Frankfurt, my mistake.
Pat
I agree with the others... it is a pretty small airport. I've never flown from there, although been to the airport for buses, and if I know the Italians at all I would be surprised if they are there in the middle of the night...
The Amerigo Vespucci airport is quite small. We've flown in there on Lufthansa from Frankfurt. They have to use smaller planes as the airport cannot handle the jumbo jets. It is unlikely that the airport even opens before 5:00am.
