Hello. We are on a RS Tour next year ending in Chamonix on a Friday. We are planning on spending an extra night and leaving on Saturday. Anyone know how early transportation leaves from Chamonix to Geneva in the mornings? We are trying to schedule a departing flight. Thanks
Why not look at booking a shuttle? It is the most efficient way to get to GVA from Chamonix. There are many, but I am familiar with AlpyBus and I think we left around 9AM. I would hazard a guess that you can find earlier departures. Just Google “Chamonix to Geneva Shutle.”
Much appreciated!
Last year we used Mountain Dropoffs to get from Chamonix to Geneva Airport.
Due to the gauge of the rails changing as you get closer to Chamonix, there are a couple
of changes of trains between Chamonix and Geneva, thus making the train a bit less desirable
of an option, especially if you have lots of luggage.
Trains don't usually go on sale until ~3 months before departure date, so you are way early for
that.
You're probably way early for booking a shuttle also; most shuttle companies will be busy with
winter ski travelers for the next few months. Note that there will be a price difference between
a private shuttle or a shared one. However, I recommend using findtransfers.com in any case,
as that website shares your shuttle needs with multiple companies and they bid on your proposal.
Best way to find the best option without contacting multiple companies yourself.
However, after all that, I would strongly suggest you consider going to Geneva Airport the night
before your flight and staying at a hotel there, such as the Nash Airport Hotel. It will take 2-3
hours to get from Chamonix to Geneva, but on a Saturday morning there could be traffic, especially
if it is the last weekend of July or August. So unless your flight is late morning/early afternoon,
or you leave Chamonix by 5-6am, you could be risking your flight.
Spending the night in Geneva is something we had not considered. Thanks
