What's to do for layover at Dusseldorf Airport?

We only have a 3 hr. layover, but was wondering if the airport was large enough to pass the time. I heard it
was a smaller airport, but it looks fairly large on the website.

If possible, visit the city, I was impressed, quite modern compared to Koln.

I don't think I'd try leaving the airport. I usually try to be at an airport 2 hours before flight time (and I carry on). You wouldn't have time to get anywhere outside and still get back with a 2 hr cushion. Which way are you flying, US to Duesseldorf or Duesseldorf to US. I flew Munich to Chicago via Duesseldorf in 2009. BTW, I hope both flights are on the same ticket and say "DUS". I say that because occasionally people try to connect with Ryanair flights which don't use Düsseldorf (DUS), but fly into Weeze (NRN), which is several hours away by bus and train. Three hours might not be enough time to make the connection.
