Dublin to Copenhagen on RyanAir

Probably a novice question, but I read so many restriction re RyanAir I just want to be sure.

We (US citizens) will Fly US to Dublin and be in Dublin for 4 nights, no issue.

Then on a Saturday morning (10AM flight), we fly RyanAir from Dublin to Copenhagen. After a bit of craziness with the ryanair website (even though I booked direct with them), I have the tickets with add on for luggage and seat selection. I have the App and looks like I can check in on it, and I also know they want you at gate 40 minutes before.

So, questions are:

1) Since we will already be in EU, is there still some passport/visa check at Dublin airport prior to security? (Its an EU to EU flight)

2) What does the 40 minute RyanAir Rule mean. Is there someone at the gate we need to check in with?

Thanks. We have been to EU often, but rarely fly within.

1) EU has nothing to do with it. Ireland is not a Schengen country. Denmark is.

There is no exit immigration in Ireland. You will go through security and proceed to your gate. Ryanair will probably want to check to make sure you have a valid passport.

In Copenhagen, you will go through passport control/immigration to get your passports stamped for entering Schengen.

I can't help with #2 as I have never flown Ryanair.

What the rule seems to mean is that, even if you have done on line check in no later than 2 hours before check in to avoid the £55 airport check in fee, then if you arrive at bag drop less than 40 minutes before departure you will be charged an extra £100.
You have to go through security, then to gate and board before departure time. So if you arrive at security essentially less than that 40 minutes you may well end up arriving at the gate too late, thus delaying the flight and incurring the airline extra costs, especially if they miss their take off slot. Those costs are now being passed on to the people who caused the costs to be incurred.

The 40-minute rule is for non-EU/EEA passengers who have to do a visa check. The check-in and Visa/Document Check desks are open at least 2 hours before your departure time and close strictly 40 minutes prior to the scheduled time of departure.

You have to do the visa check at the desk or via the app. It applies to US citizens. It's a RyanAir thing. The Visa Document Check desk may not be next to the check-in desk.

This is the detail of the fee mentioned above for late arrival, from the Ryanair website (which is of course buried in the small print-

Missed Departure Fee €/£100- Only available at less than 40 mins before and up to 1 hour after flight departure time. Also available to customers who arrive at the ticket desk up to an hour after their flight departure to move to the next available flight. The fee is charged per passenger per sector.
