I am planning a trip in Sept. We fly into Dublin @ 8:30 in the morning. We plan to spend about a week in each location. My question is "Does anyone have suggests on the order to visit each place?" I didn't buy open jaw, so we're flying in and out of Dublin heading back into the States. Affordable but not wasting too much time is the goal.
Please check the "to the north" part of this helpline. I wrote a very detailed answer to Jane on 4/22/10 London/Scotland/Ireland---most of the answer also fits your trip. Using London and Paris as bases for a week and including day trips to the countryside will work. However, I don't think it works for Dublin---you need to get to the west coast to see most of the iconic scenery. Inverness would make a better base for Scottish day trips. For both Ireland and Scotland, you would do better renting a car so you can drive and stop wherever you wish.
I am at phase one of planning this trip. I planned an overly ambishous 2 week trip to Italy 2 years ago and we loved traveling at such a quick pace. I know many disagree with this method, but it works for us. So for this trip, we would like to stay in the main cities (Dublin, Edinburgh, London, and Paris) and take one or two day trip per city to the country side or a place that interest us. My first challenge is deciding which order to visit the countries listed. Thinking Dublin (a few days)then fly to Edinburgh and work my way down to paris then fly back to Dublin or (shannon/galway) for the rest of the trip. I am also trying to purchase the big tickets in Euros verses Pounds, to save $. I noticed today that there are quick ferry options as well. The problem might be that I have too many options:) Thanks for your help.
