My family and I will be travelling to Portugal & Spain next month. We are looking to rent a van which will give us the freedom to explore the area. Our last stop will be in Madrid and then we have reserved a day to drive back to Lisbon so we can catch our flight back to Toronto. This is to avoid paying the $250 extra fee to drop off the rental car in Spain. Has anyone travelled by van. Are the 9 seater vans roomy enough for passengers AND luggage (we are planning to pack light and no large suitcases). How's the drive from Madrid to Lisbon, is one day enough time? What about border crossings? Any advice, tips or warnings will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Those vans are usually roomy enough for many passengers OR lots of luggage. 8 people + carry-on sized luggage would be very tight. Finding parking for such a large vehicle is not easy either. You may want to prize out renting 2 smaller vehicles instead to give you more luggage room. I wouldn't be surprized if the price difference is minimal or even favouring the 2 car option.
