We are traveling to Germany in September after picking up our car in Sweden. How should we see Berlin? Drive in or stay outside and take a train?
Are you ending in Berlin? If so, lose the car when you get there because public transport will work fine.
We're making a similar trip (I'm now thinking of going in July, August so my wife can enjoy the weather) rather than my normal preference of traveling in September.
The last iteration of our plan: we'll end our Baltic tour (by boat) in Copenhagen, train to Flensburg or Schlesswig, then train or rent a car to Berlin and fly home from there.
That's only the most current iteration, it's sure to change at least twenty times before I buy tickets or reserve anything.
Why train to Flensburg to pick up a car? The difference in price between picking it up in Copenhagen and Flensburg is more than $200 per day (for nine days) from Copenhagen to Berlin, under $50 per day (same period) from Flensburg to Berlin.
We visit Berlin every year and never use a car as the parking is impossible and public transport is superb.
