I’ve seen a number of posts over recent years asking about or relating experience in using an EV on holiday. Most of them have been pretty negative ending up emphasising the possible difficulties in getting the car charged.
I’m pretty sure that most comments have been by people who do not drive an EV and do not have direct experience of using one on a holiday trip. Full disclosure – we have had an EV for around 9 years now, originally as a second car with and ICE car as well but for the last 4 years as one sole family car.
We had a 12 day holiday recently, mainly for me to cycle the Hebridean Way from Vatersay to Lewis but with a couple of side trips as well. This report is not designed to tell you what the Outer Hebrides were like – suffice it to say that they are glorious with some of the best beaches anywhere in the world. For us it also had the unintentional effect of missing one of the UK’s recent heatwaves!
We currently have a Polestar 2 car. Not I think available in the US but it’s a direct competitor to Tesla. It has a range of about 330 miles*.
