Driving-Prague-Cesky Krumlov-Rothenburg-Munch

We will be visiting Munich and Prague in December (over Christmas). Does it make sense to rent a car from Munich to Prague, do Cesky Krumlov and then drive the Romantic Road to Rothenburg odt?

Or is the train/buses better? Train and bus schedules for winter are not out yet so I am not sure how convenient it is. Also I have no idea whether it is safe/easy to drive in winter? Any advice?

Is there a reasonably priced car rental agency that allows pick-up in Prague and drop off in Munich? Please advise.

Who says that bus and train schedules aren't out yet. I found train schedules for Munich to Praque in January on the Bahn website.

As for the Romantic Road, the Road itself is nothing special; it's the towns on the road that are worth while, and you are going to the best of them, Rothenburg obT. You can go with the train from Prague to Nürnberg and from there to Rothenburg. If you really want to see another town, see Nördlingen. You can easily get there by bus from Rothenburg.

BTW, I've spent over 6 weeks in Bavaria in the last eight years and never needed a car. They have great public transportation.

Many car rental companies do not want you to take a rental into the Czech Republic. At the very least, you need to make them aware of it before you do so and make sure you will be covered. However, the fact that they do not encourage it and some down right forbid it could be a sign that public transportation is a better option.

We traveled from Munich to Prague...using the Bayern/Barvarian ticket...6 hours...no changes. We then took the bus to Cesky Krumlov which I would not do again. You can get a train to Ceske Budejovice and bus from there to Krumlov. Beautiful ride.

I prefer to ride the trains in Europe. It is also a beautiful ride to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Enjoy.

Let me apologize profusely for the length of this but on the off chance someone answers, I wanted to be as thorough as possible:

My wife and I will be traveling to Prague/Munich/Vienna for our one year anniversary. I am wondering what the weather is like in February? I know that it is very cold, but is it normally sunny and clear or cloudy and awful?

Also I am looking to travel down the romantic road? I am renting a car in Munich and want to drive to Vienna and then into Prague (already accounted for rental companies policies about driving in Eastern Europe). I wanted to take the Romantic Road en route to Vienna. However, I am torn between the best time to see it: day or night. Both seem equally appealing.

So I am wondering if it would be at all practical to take the Route from Munich to the following points on the Romantic Road: Augsburg, Donauworth, Harburg, Nordlingen, Dinkelbuhl, and Feuchtwangen. (About a one hour drive) And then travel from Feuchtwangen to Vienna (about a four or five hour drive) I would do this during the day. The normal route from Munich to Vienna is about four hours anyway, so this way I could take an hour more and see the Romantic Road. I would drive two days later from Vienna to Prague (a three or four trip?)stay two or three days in Prague and then on the way back to Munich I would travel the Romantic Road again by night-- driving from Prague to Rothenburg and then take the Romantic Road back to Munich.(five or six hours total?)

Sorry for the length but does this make sense? Or is it ridiculous.

A penny for your thoughts?:)
