Driving from Paris to Lucerne

We will be leaving Orly about 10:00 a.m. and hope to drive to Lucerne that day. First time driving in Europe, will have GPS. Is this feasible? Driving times say 6 1/2 hours and add time to that. Has anyone done this? Should we try to spend the night closer to Lucerne. Would like to briefly see Luceren and next day will head for Reuette, Austria.

We will have been in London for 7 days and 3 in Paris. Picking up car at Orly. We won't be very well rested, but ready to get out of cities and into the countryside. Thanks.
