What would be an interesting driving route from Florence to Bordeaux if one has not visited southern France before? We have approximately four days before we need to be in Bordeaux.

Four days isn't that long. I would skip the CT (sorry Kent, but parking is a problem) and try to get to Villefranche sur Mer (with hotel reservations and not on the week of the Monaco Gran Prix - long story.) I'd try for two nights around Avignon to see the countryside. Arles is also good. And then I'd hightail it for Bordeaux on the Autoroute.
Why do you want to go to Bordeaux?
