Driving Europe? Need a GPS?

We are leaving in a month and just bought the Tom Tom GO920 after many recommendations. This comes with the European maps already loaded. If you are considering buying one I wanted to share that Costco is running an incredible special of $299 right now, online. Ya can't beat it.

That is a great price Margaret. Congratulations. I saw where Brad posted this price from Costco on another thread. I was in Best Buy and saw the 920T for $376.00 and thought that was a great deal. I am not sure what the difference is between the 920 and 920T but for $299.00 I would go for the 920. I took the tomtom 910 to Europe last year and it worked great there. I think you will add to the growing list of people here who are singing the praises of having a gps for driving in Europe. Now you will have time to practice and get familiar with it before your trip. Good for you.

Yes, we will have it by Monday and plan on "practicing" with it. I've read some links or maybe it was product reviews about some people having problems with downloading updates etc but I think there's enough info out there to figure it all out and of course costco has their help line where if they don't know how to figure it out they'll find out how. Great service.

I had some trouble downloading updates of the U.S. maps but eventually I got it to work. It was a free update as there were some problems with the U.S. maps on the early models of the 910 but there was no free updates with Europe. Frankly, I did not notice any difference with the update I downloaded. The Europe maps were not a problem. I don't think you will need to worry about updates since yours is a newer model and should be more up to date. Even with an older model mine still serves its purpose and I have not noticed any roads on it that have been outdated. New points of interest are more of a problem but if you have an address you can get there.

The 920 T has another antenna that plugs in and runs along your windshield. It's designed to receive traffic info and route you around traffic. You can also opt to subscribe to additional traffic information.

I didn't buy it because I couldn't find any reports of how well the system works. If I hear it really works well, I may purchase it later.
