I'm driving to Venice from Barcelona in mid May. We want to leave Barcelona early morning and stop for an overnight stay somewhere interesting in France. Can anyone suggest an interesting pointy midway? Any tips on the best route to take would be helpful too.

You can use Google maps or viamichelin do a route plan that will give you detailed directions, drive times, toll costs, etc.

gary, Be sure that you're aware of the "issues" when driving in Italy (IDP, ZTL areas, etc.). If you need further information, post another note.

I would say anywhere along the Riviera before Nice. There are beautiful towns one after another. One of my favorites is the small beach town of St. Maximes. Nice beach, good shopping, restaurants, a market (don't know which day) a carousel at the park on the beach...plenty of hotels. I did not mapquest, so don't know how far from Venice or how close to Barcelona, but I have done the drive, I just can't remember my timing.
