Driving around the Italian lakes

Am hoping to drive around Lakes Como, Lugano, and Maggiore in Spring 2008. Any advice?

Honk as you approach blind corners. Listen for honks coming from the other side...

Concentrate. I took a bus from Bellagio around to Argengo and had to close my eyes several times. The roads have very tight corners and from our perspective people were on the wrong side of the road. There were several parts of the road where it was only wide enough for one car to pass so be careful. However having said that it was a spectacular trip in terms of scenery.

I stayed in Varrenna and drove north and then east toward Austria.Rick is correct when he says you can see very little. The lake is well hidden.Unless you have to drive all the way around Id suggest going back toward Milan.

Have visited all these lakes but only driven around Commo. Had no problems driving and were not scared or worried, just enjoyed the drive. Also, on the weekends your going could be very slow as the Italians also flock to the lakes and the traffic can be horrendous and forget about finding a parking spot.
