What is the advantage of having an international driver's license (for Ireland)?

Bob, AFAIK, there's no requirement to have an I.D.P. for Ireland (although I've heard of rental operators in the U.K. requesting them, which makes no sense). The primary purpose of an I.D.P. is to translate the terms of your home license, and since they presumably speak English in Ireland I doubt that translation would be necessary. If you're concerned about that, I'd suggest contacting the rental firm for clarification. Happy travels!

None. It's a waste of money. They have no interest in it. And as far as the UK goes, none either. I rent there a couple times a year. I'm sitting here with one now. Never in forty years and an uncountable number of times.
