Driver

I need a driver to take me from Montepulciano to Lecco Italy the end of June 2024. How do I find someone reliable?

I'm sorry I am no help, but that is a 6 hour drive. Is there a reason you won't be taking public transportation?

Lecco is northeast of Milan, and it's 282 miles from Montepulciano. Most people would not take a driver to go that far.

Unfortunately, Montepulciano is very out of the way if you don't have a rental car.

The route would require you to get up to Florence where you'd take the 1 hour train to Bologna. There you'd change trains to Milan. Then catch a bus into Lecco. It's an all day trip. There's really no easy way to make the trip.

How would I get there? I am a 82 year old woman traveling alone and need help finding another way that would not be too difficult.

Sometimes single travelers do best not traveling to and from places that are not easy to get to and from. And in your case, both cities are somewhat off the beaten path. I'm sorry.

Just to add: sometimes we need to change travel styles as we age, so while I am no help with a solution, I applaud you for looking for a way that makes it possible for you to keep traveling.

The driver with Mondo Tours transferred my friend and I from Rome to Sorrento round trip in 2022. Very pleasant driver. The tour owner is Vincenzo Pauciullo. I would definitely use his company when I return to Italy. Hope this helps.

Barbara - the first question is how are you getting to Montepulciano in the first place - where are you coming from - can you retrace your steps?

It looks like there is a train from Arezzo to Florence, so it may be easier to hire a driver to get you from Montepulciano to the train station in Arezzo, where you would get on a train to Florence. From Florence take the train to Bologna then transfer to the train to Milan, as suggested above. From Milan you may be able to hire a driver to take you to Lecco. Or take the bus.

The RS Italy guidebook suggests taking the bus [one per hour] to Chiusi, which is on the main rail line to Florence. So a private driver to Chiusi would be another option.

Depending on how well you travel, you might want to break up the trip with an overnight stay somewhere along the route.

There are other options that would require that you start with a bus from Montepulciano to a town with rail service to get you to Florence. There is rail service from Montepulciano Stazione but it looks like it may be more trouble than it's worth.
