we are considering taking a taxi from naples train station to sorrento instead of the circumvesuvia train. I want to know how long the taxi takes vs the train as we are in a hurry.

If all else fails, check the international maps on Mapquest (there is a link to directions and maps outside of the US and Canada on the main page). We used it last year to determine whether we wanted to drive or take the train. I think the drive time with no traffic is about an hour and the Circumsuviana takes 50-70 minutes. I don't think there is much time saved taking a taxi.
