Taking a ferry arriving as foot passenger in Calais in late afternoon. My thought was to spend the night in Calais then start out the next morning by train to Southern France.
Questions: 1)how to get from ferry landing to hotel or 2) get to Calais Ville or Frethun station, if I decide to start right out rather than spend the night?

Harry, I did the reverse of your trip (train to Calais, then ferry)
As I recall the train station and ferry dock are close to each other - I double-checked via GoogleEarth - you'll hike across a parking lot to the ferry. http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=50.967235,1.8524081&z=15&t=h&hl=en
