Dover - Calais ferry company SeaFrance out of business

Has anybody got tickets on SeaFrance, the trans-channel ferry company? A French judge has just pulled the plug.

'Ferries are outdated on that route' A lot of tonnage moves on trucks that use the ferries.

It was about time. Ferries are outdated on that route, at least the type of ferry operated by SeaFrance.

Ferries are outdated on that route I disagree. It is a very competitive route. I am sad to see some of the competition disappear. Regular readers will know that I regularly use Eurotunnel now rather than ferries, but I think the ferries are a very valuable service. I use the tunnel because, for me, certainty of travel, certainty of and shortness of time, are more valuable than a cheaper price - although going through the tunnel can be do quite cheaply by working the system. I have, prior to my change, used the hovercraft, the SeaFrance, the P&O, and Stena. All have or had advantages and, except for the way too noisy hovercraft - now dead and buried - provide a pleasant crossing. For those who value money more than time, when there is competition the fares go very low on the ferries. And, as my man Ed said, the vast bulk of the cross channel trucking goes by ferry.
