I'm midway through the process of booking, but curious. I am not set up as Verfied by Visa yet. Is it also commonplace to have to put your passport number in the reservation?
I just booked with Renfe recently. I did not have to put my passport information in to book. And the Verify by Visa pops up to be completed during the process (had this happen with two different cards). I also printed my ticket here at home.
Yes, as I recall we did enter our passport numbers. You also need to enter your phone number properly, meaning the right number of digits (the same number as a Spanish telephone number). It ends up not being your real phone number but it doesn't matter.
I successfully navigated Renfe - only took two tries. I think they do accept AmEx, but only for cardholders in Spain. I was able to purchase tickets with MC. Oddly, I registered and did not have to provide my passport number. Do I bother printing out my tickets or should I just wait until I get to the station the day of (no chance of misplacing)?
Congrantualtions on your triumph-not everyone succeeds with Renfe. I printed ours out at home and carried them. I preferred that to taking a chance on finding a suitable terminal for printing when we got to Spain.
Print your ticket at home...It will have the coach number and the seat number on it. As for AMEx...my experience has been that it is very seldom , almost never, accepted in Europe...
Did those who did not need to enter a passport number book as a registered user? Maybe that is why you did not have to enter your passport number. If you go through a dummy booking without logging in as a registered user, it asks for your type of identity document (passport) and then passport number. These are marked as obligatory fields. I did register before buying any tickets, but was never able to log in without getting an error code. So I just went ahead and made numberous ticket purchases without logging in. After the first time, when I entered all the numbers, my computer did auto-fill so it was quick. But it did ask for passport number with each purchase.
I registered and also had a hard time logging in or at least finding out where to do it. I believe I stumbled upon it on the second page - where it asks you to pick a specific time (look in the upper right hand corner, I think). I was asked for a passport number when I did a dummy booking and before I registered. I ended up printing the tickets here. It's probably better just to have them and not waste time doing it there.
I registered first, but nowhere did it ever ask for my passport number. I just checked my ticket for Aug 16 to make sure I didn't neglect to fill in some information, but they don't ask for it anywhere. The place to register is under the + Services tab on the left side of the home page.
