we are traveling from London-Edinburg-York-London.Looking at train fares on East Rail it seemed pretty cheap if booked 12 weeks ahead - (~240GBP). Why do I need a britpass? Am i missing something? Does railpass allow cancellations or offer tickets during peak times which might not be otherwise available as Advance Fares? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks
You're not missing anything. Discount fare tickets are for a specific departure date and time and are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. So long as you can commit, they're a great deal. A railpass is good on any train at any time of day. No reservations needed. However, with a pass you can get free seat reservatios at the station.
I see rail passes being offered for ~500 for a family of 4. Are these prices offered for a specific time or is this usually the norm for rail passes whenever we chose to buy them? Also, is there cancellation penalty for changing tickets? I couldnt find any information on changing reservations after making booking. Thanks
