Do I have to pay to check booster seats

We're flying within the U.S. The last time we flew with our kids (a year ago), we did not have to pay to check their booster seats. I have been unable to verify whether we'll have to pay to check the seats this year on American Airlines' Web site. Does anyone have recent info on the status of booster seats? Thanks!

I did, and got two different answers! I'm going to believe the "free" answer and go with it!

You should just be able to count it as a piece of luggage. We checked our son's booster and 2 other piece of luggage between the 4 of us with Lufthansa and didn't have to pay.

Something to know, though, was in Frankfurt and Dublin airports, we had to check it through as oversized baggage. Not sure why, it was a small booster seat, but possibly since it's not luggage-shaped. We had to pick it up at a separate place from the rest of our luggage. And in Frankfurt, we had lousy timing checking it in, and got stuck behind a family who was checking in their dog and sports equipment. Although we already had tags on the seat to check it, we had to wait about 30 minutes while they got checked in.
