disjointed travel...

I took advantage of low AA flights and booked PHX to FRA and ZUR to PHX over 18 days for my wife and 2 small children. Originally I thought that my older daughter couldn't go, or didn't want to go because of some schooling schedule problems, but now she wants to go. I have a lot of miles, and now she wants her friend to come along, especially now that she knows I can use them. I dont have a problem using my miles, the problem is that she can't exactly fly with us, on the same flight. They will come in 1-2 days later and then fly out 5 days earlier than we do. Im not in love with the idea, but its doable

My daughter is 17 and her friend is 16. Are there any restrictions to them flying by themselves? anything I need to know about? there will be at least 1 stop from PHX to FRA

Thank you!

[Edit: AA = American Airlines]

My daughter flew to Germany on her own ( to meet family ) when she was 14.. she encountered no problems. She did have in her possession a letter giving her aunt and uncle rights to sign for medical treatment( as she was staying a month with them ) we had lawyer draw this up.. but she was never asked for it at airport .

She was technically an UA( unaccompanied minor) but at her age they didn't require us to pay an extra fee ( as they did when she flew alone when younger .. ) because she didn't need hand holding in the airport.

Your daughter and her friend should have no issues.. but I would contact the actual airline you are using to be clear about their requirements.

You need to look at the requirements for each country for unaccompanied minors as well as the airlines.
Others might have mentioned that you might want a letter from the other parents regarding health care.

Did you talk by phone with a booking agent for using your air miles? What is the fee for changing the award flights once you book them? When I've booked through Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan for international flights for a last-minute planner in my family, there were more seats opened up to mileage awards just a week or two before departure. So I booked an inconvenient return route with the plan that I would (and did) change it later, for a fee, when the return date grew closer.
