Am planning on flying Easyjet from Venice to CDG the first week of June. Have never used the discount airlines. Tickets are quite reasonable. Have not made reservations. Luggage requirements are slightly confusing for me even though they have a great website full of questions and answers. Appreciate any tips. Thanks.
I've used many discount airlines including EasyJet. I think the common problems people have include not paying for their luggage and seats in advance, and not realizing which airports are associated with the flight. For example, RyanAir flies to Paris Beauvais not CDG. The seats part isn't applicable to EasyJet or RyanAir who don't allow you to select seats ahead of time. You're charged more if you pay for your luggage or seats at the airport, as opposed to booking them at the time that you purchase your flight. That's all I can really think of in regard to tips. The only real difference once you're in flight is having to pay for any food or drinks.
If you can do easyjet, their limit is 20kg (44 lbs.) per person and one bag each. This should be relatively easy to reach given that most domestic airlines have a 50 lb. limit. You might also think about myair (www.myair.com), which I think also flies that route but to Orly, which is slightly easier than CDG IMHO.
Basically, you'll pay extra for every checked bag, 5 pounds on the website (when you purchase your ticket) or 10 pounds if you wait til you get to the airport. No freebies for checked luggage. They do allow unlimited weight in their one carry-on piece....but that'll mean ONE carry-on, not one carry-on and a purse or knapsack, so be prepared to combine everything. And you have to be capable of hoisting it into the overhead bin yourself. As well, while you may have noticed U-S based airlines allowing on some rather huge pieces of "carry-on" luggage (and been frustrated with that), be aware that the European discount airlines are generally very strict with their size limitations. And I agree that if you can fly out of Orly instead, it'll be a bit easier on you.
We flew CDG to Venice on Swiss Air just 2 weeks ago. You have to change planes in Zurich. Booked it through europebyair.com
I have found that my carry-on I take to Europe is a tiny bit over their size requirements. Measure carefully. I never check my bags, but I plan to on EasyJet and Vueling. (which does irritate me, but I don't want to have to pay more at the airport)
Be aware of luggage rstrictions or pay alot more, also no frills. But book those reservations asap or you will lose the best fares fast.
I flew London/Luton to Barcelona no problems and a great fare. BOOK soon.
