I am taking a trip to Greece and Italy in May and need to purchase my tickets. I used ITA software, a "meta-site" that searches fares between any worldwide city, recommended on www.clarkhoward.com. I found some prices I like, but wanted to see if I could get them cheaper through the discount airfare websites. But I'm concerned about how good these sites are. If I purchase a ticket through one, what happens if the flight is cancelled or I need to change my plans. Do I work with the airlines, or the website if there is a problem. What if my flight is delayed and I miss a connecting flight. Is it better to try to fly with one airline all the way?
If you purchase the ticket from a consolidator then you have to go through them for everything. If you purchase it directly from the airlines then you go through the airlines for everything. If you ticket is from a consolidator and you miss a connecting flight you have to go through the consolidator to adjust your plans. The airlines won't help you directly even if your ticket is with only one airline. Remember the consolidator does not have a help desk at the airport (inside or outside of security). Edwin
