I am life long Rick Steve’s tour book aficionado. I was a little disappointed by the Stockholm getting around recs. He recommended Strömma’s boat and bus services. I DO NOT recommend this service. The buses are packed. On 7 trips we stood on 6 , 1 bus broke down, and the 7th was 55 minutes lates. They don’t have enough staff nor buses. One time my family had to standing in the stairwell of the bus. I recommend the other options in Stockholm including public transit. I have asked for my money back but no response from their customer service. Avoid at all cost. The boat was a similar situation. Tightly packed, long lines, and relatively poor to no service. I think they service the cruise lines thus the high level of travelers and no seats. I wonder how much research Ricks team did on this. The rest of city recs were spot on. Remember walking around is very easy. Also note the taxis are sketchy. Use reputable taxi companies.

You are correct! We were on a cruise and the hop on and off buses market heavily to the cruises.

We walked everywhere in Stockholm plus a few ferries. I can’t understand why one would take a hop on hop off bus there. A transit pass can be used cor buses or meteo to fo farther a field.

I pretty much hate hop on hop off buses in any city, but I don’t know why anyone would use them in Stockholm. An SL period card is quite a good value and is good for all of Stockholm county. Rick Steves has a place on this site for guidebook feedback, so you may want to post there.

Taxis are unregulated in Stockholm, so you need to be careful to use certain companies. Taxi Stockholm, is one of the reliable companies and the number is easy to remember (15 00 00).

Strömma also run HOHO busses and harbour tours in Copenhagen, where they are currently involved in a labour dispute. According to some of their employees, the working conditions are not very good and since many of their employees are not Danish citizens, they dont dare complain for fear of looking their jobs and means to support themselves, thus risking getting kicked out of the country.
I would not recommend a Company the exploirs it’s workers like that.
