We will be staying at the Amsterdam Marriott hotel in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. What are the different ways we can reach the Uniworld River Cruises dock from our hotel? We will each have 1 bag but can easily take the tram, etc.
Did you ask Uniworld? They seem to be in the best position to answer your question.
Yes. They can't even tell us exactly where the ship is going to dock but I can call to get exact directions on the day of the cruise. Uniworld would pick us up at the airport but we are arriving 5 days before our cruise. I'm aware of the general area of where our ship will be. Other than paying for a taxi, which I understand are fairly expensive in Amsterdam, I thought that there might be a tram or similar , less expensive way, to reach the port.
Cruises ships are just like airplane. No one can tell you the exact gate at an airport days in advance. This is no different. There is a generally docking area but where within that area probably is not available till that day. I would guess the Marriott hotel will have had that question asked before. Someone at the Marriott could call the port that day and find out exact where the boat is. And they could then direct you to the best route to the dock. The TI at the airport or big TI complex across from the train station would provide general information on getting to the dock area. We have been on a number of cruises in Europe, always go early, and don't worry about the dock until the day and then follow one of the above approaches.
Take the tram to the Central Station, then another tram to the passenger terminal. Easy.
I went thru this a couple of summers ago. I called the morning of the cruise and got the specific dock number, took the tram to Central Station and then took a taxi from there directly to the dock. Taxi fare was about 10E..and our ship was docked as the "farthest" dock space from the train station.
Perfect! Thanks to all of you. Great advice.
Tram 26 to Ijburg goes from the right hand side of Centraal as you are looking towards the station. The second stop is Passenger Terminal Amsterdam / Kattenburgerstraat. Here is an official GVB tram map.
Al, have you gone river cruising before? I take my first in May with Viking and can't wait. Please let us know how you like your cruise.
