Deutsche Bahn Online Bookings

Hello all,

I'm somewhat confused with the Deutsche Bahn online booking system, and am hoping someone can help.

I am trying to book two tickets for my girlfriend and I to travel within Germany, but am coming up against the requirement that the person booking the ticket being the one who uses it.

Now, I am assuming that if I book two tickets, with myself as the contact, and have the proper identification with me, that there won't be a problem? I find it confusing since the online booking system appears to only ask for one seat reservation preference, doesn't ask for the name of the other traveler, etc.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Many thanks!

Chris

I assume the rule is in effect to discourage ticket resale. Any sort of "group" ticket purchase is fine as long as the purchaser is among the group traveling.

I'm sure that is to prevent travel agencies from buying up all of the discount tickets the first day and reselling them at a higher price.

It's also because they send out a pdf file as your ticket and you could print (and use) it as many times as you like. By requiring the credit card on the ticket to be used as ID, they kind of limit that.

Did you start by searching for two travelers? When I do that, and go to purchase, it says,
"One-Way Ticket, 2 adults, 2nd class, Station 1 - Station 2
Sparpreis.
Also, after reservations, it says €5,00, which is the cost of a "family" (more than 1 pers) reservation.

They will only ask for one name and it better be the name on the credit card, exactly.

Here is an example of a Dauer-Spezial (now Sparpreis ticket). Note there is no place for the names of co-travelers.

Thank you both very much; I continued with the process and noticed the small note "The online ticket is non-transferable and is valid only for me personally (and any accompanying passengers if applicable)."

I appreciate the time you took to clarify!

Happy travels.
