I've looked at the DB website, but I'm having difficulties understanding what it says about (checked) baggage allowances. It says: Standard luggage max. 30 kg; max. 150 cm long. I'm understanding this to mean it can weigh up to 66 lbs & be up to 59 inches "long", wjich I'm guessing means length + width + depth. Can anyone confirm or refute this? And, is there a charge for checking bags? What about carry-on allowances, charges? Thanks in advance.
I'm not positive about 1st class, but otherwise, there is no baggage check on DB. You carry your own bags on the train, and you place them wherever you can find room, be it on the overhead rack, on the small shelf in the middle of each car, or worst case scenario, on your lap.
As Tom says, there is no need to check in bags on European trains. I think the page you are looking at refers to DB's service for sending luggage to your destination before you yourself travel.
Many thanks, gentlemen!
There is no baggage check for either first or second class. You have to be able to handle your own luggage. Carryon size bags will fit the overhead racks. Larger pieces need to go in the bins or storage area near the entrance to the train car.
