Detroit to Ams.....and then to Berlin

Hi, and thank you in advance! When arriving @ Schiphol, we have a 55 min wait before flying out to Berlin.....Is anyone familiar as to which gate/terminal we will arrive at from detroit and which one we take for our flight to berlin....or do they fluctuate? Just trying to get an idea where we go when arriving to save a little time.

The exact gates fluctuate. But the giant terminal building is split in half. One half all the gates are used for flights to/from non-schengen destinations (Detroit to AMS) The other half, Schengen destinations (AMS-Berlin), with the immigration desks between the two. So there is a good chance you will have to walk the entire length of the terminal building (about a mile)to get to your gate. 55 minutes is cutting it a bit close (you'll also have to go through a security screening), but there is a good chance there are later flights the airline can use if you miss your original departure.

What we do when we arrive at Schiphol is go to the center of the terminal where there is a bording pass counter as well as automated boarding pass machines. We have always had to get a new boarding pass there for our continuing flights, and at that time found which gate we need to be at. Schiphol is a large terminal with looooong concourses, but it is well signed and all you have to do is follow the directions. 55 minutes will probably not leave you with much time to cool you heels.

The timing is a little short. We were on the same flight last Christmas and missed our connection. Our plane was about 15 minutes late to the gate AND we were seated in the rear of the plane opposite the door. Took another 20 minutes or so get off. Next time I will try for a seat closer to the door. You need to go through immigrations - a quick walk through but the lines were long and then through security again with long lines. Don't be afraid to jump the line. At both locations there was an attendant off to the left that was waving people through with short connections. And then of course the long walk. We missed the connect but everyone was nice about and we were on another plane about two hours later. Did make for a long day.
