Desperately Need Help Finding Flight For Teacher and Son

I need a flight from DFW or IAH to florence or even Rome. Is there someone who has flown before who can tell me the best fares, best time to purchase (leaving 6/11-7/2) and best cheap air conditioned hotels/hostels to stay at in Florence and Paris? Merci!

Use www.kayak.com for your flight comparisons.Florence and Paris are not cheap and w/ a/c even more expensive. As you are going to be in those cities during warmer months best best plan to spend at least $150 per ni or stay at Etap Hotel Paris and metro in to sights for Florence ck Ritz Hotel ([email protected]) on the Arno river (this is not the 5 star Ritz chain).

Jacqueline~~Since you are already so close to departure, I recommend purchasing as soon as you find the connections and transit times you want. Personally I prefer not traveling across the US (not going through JFK!) due to the potential of delay since I prefer to start my vacation in Europe rather than a US airport! Admittedly I depart out of a tiny airport so we get to pay more but I've found that prices have only gone up the closer we get to departure which is mid-May for us.
Hotel la Scaletta in Florence is an old favorite of ours and in a great location...there are pros & cons to it though. The staff are wonderful, breakfast is definitely so-so.
Try to enjoy the planning--I know you'll enjoy the trip!
PS: just give yourself adequate time for airport connections such as one & a half hours minimum!

We flew American from DFW to Paris in 06. Hard to say what the best fares are now. We flew into Paris and home from Rome. Since you leave in June, I would purchase very soon. We booked about 6 months in advance if I recall. We had the airport shuttle pick us up at home since our entire family went together, and it was so nice to have the shuttle for the return home since we were all so pooped. Price was a bit cheaper than if we left our car parked there for 2 weeks. In Paris we stayed near Rue Cler, but if I were going to go now and stay several days, I would rent an apartment. There are several rental agencies/websites. Visited but did not stay in Florence. That will be another trip, hopefully.
Ciao!

Jacqueline, there are many nice hotels in Paris with A/C,, but what is you budget,, that will help narrow it down,, please, state budget in euros it is easiest. Cheap can mean many things,, do you mean under 150 euros, under 100 , under 75??

We have had good luck with direct flights from IAH to London (850) being hundred of dollars cheaper than to Paris (1250). Even with the Chunnel ticket, it's about three hundred dollars cheaper. Depends on if you are time sensitive or price sensitive. My husband and I travelled when we were DINKs with limited vacation time, so we paid a premium to be on the flight we wanted. You may be willing to swing your itinerary some to get a cheaper flight.

We are looking for flights around the same time you are for this summer.

Last summer we went June 12-June 26 flying into Dublin and out of Barcelona for $675 a piece out of DFW. We bought our tickets on April 4th.

I know some people are telling you to buy now, but we are holding off a few more weeks to see if the prices drop after Easter. We are looking into flying into Frankfurt and out of Dublin or Around those dates and prices are $1200 or more right now. I pray I can find a little bit better deal than that in the next few weeks. I am not expecting to get the same deal as last year but $800-$900 would be great for us.

We stayed at the Hotel Montreal in Florence. Has A/C and breakfast is included. There are haveing a sale now and it works in June.. STAY 2 NIGHTS AND PAY ONLY 1 NIGHT. ROOM WITH PRIVATE SHOWER AND TOILET.
BREAKFAST IS INCLUDED IN THE RATE.

Nice hotel. Bad part is they close the doors at 11 or 12 til 5 in morning. However, if you are with son, then I assume you will be in by then. Try to get room on floors 1,2,3. Fourth and upwards require stairs.
