We are traveling from Copenhagen, Denmark to Basel, Switzerland in September. Travel time between locations is 4 days. We would like to visit Germany along the way. Would it be better to take the train or drive? Any suggestions on locations to stop along our route? Thank you.

Trains run almost everywhere and long-distance trains are faster than driving. Multi-country car rentals can also cost a lot more than just within Germany, for instance. You could start out almost any direction. Train to Hamburg takes 5 hours. Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.
A budget flight would also be an option for the first leg to any German city - such as Copenhagen-Berlin (versus 7 hours by train or bus) or Copenhagen-Cologne (versus 9-hour train ride). Try www.skyscanner.com.
