Has anyone ordered a vegetarian meal recently on their US-->Europe flight? What was it? I'm flying JFK to Prague and really dislike the "usual" meals...hoping the veggie or some other option tastes better. Any advice or thoughts?
If you need it , get it, otherwise don't bother. The FA will not be impressed.
I haven't flown Delta to Europe in a number of years but in my experience on other airlines, there are only 2 meal options, vegetarian and meat, so I'm not sure what you mean by "veggie or some other option." And honestly, all that food tastes the same. I order meat sometimes and veggie sometimes and there's really no difference.
Thanks for the feedback. What I meant by "veggie or other" is that there a Kosher, Muslim, Vegan, Low Salt, etc. choices.
Bring your own food...definitely! Just watch the 3-1-1 'landmines' (no containers of salad dressings, etc.)
What was nice was that the website asks what kind of vegetarian you are, so since I love my eggs and cheese, I chose the lacto-ovo vegetarian. Everything we got was good, but it was vegan. We ended up asking for butter and salad dressing. What was funny was that the on-flight dinner was either steak or cheese lasagna. The person next to us got lasagna. It looked good, and better than our rice and asparagus. Plus their dessert was some chocolate cake and we got unripe cantaloupe and honeydew melon. The other perk when you get a special meal, you usually get it first.
Having flown over 4 million miles my experience has been to order the fruit platter, if you don't eat dairy and it comes with a small piece of cheese you can just not eat the cheese. On domestic airlines my take is the the veggie meals run the gamut of mediocre to inedible. Or take along your own meal of what you want just don't bring any liquids.
Fruit plate? Lacto-ovo meal? All these options! I've only seen 2 meal choices, maybe because I'm too poor to fly anything outside of economy class.
This is economy on Delta, International. Domestic you're lucky to get a pack of pretzels, eh? I'm sure they wouldn't feed us at all internationally if they could get away with it :p
I'm sure they're very close to charging us for meals on international flights! There's a whole untapped market out there! :)
My wife's experience is closer to Kelly's than being overwhelmed by the meal. First, my wife does not eat meat, does eat most dairy, eats eggs in food items, but not an egg by itself. She typically orders a special meal, and there are a number of choices on Delta, but be warned that each is not a different meal necessarily, but may be a meal that fits all, usually vegan. She too found that the normal meal offering was probably a better choice than the special meal. Not sure if it is policy, but on most Delta flights we have been on the past several years have had a meat option and a non-meat option, usually a pasta. My preference would be to take the standard meal unless I had very specific dietary needs, then supplement with what I bring on the plane with me.
I always bring food, anyway - if you've ever been stuck for hours on a runway or been on an airplane in severe turbulence and there's NO food/beverage service...you start bringing your own food ;-)
