Delta Sky Priority question.

I only have silver medallion status and under 12k miles in my sky miles. Coming back home from France, the attendant gave us priority boarding and first class seats on the last leg. Why did that happen? Was she just being nice?

I have received upgrades on the domestic leg of an international trip with Delta with Platinum status. They have a metric that they follow for domestic upgrades. I agree that Silver status is down the list, but it is on the list. I don't know, but maybe that upgrade also came with priority boarding for the whole trip?

Probably a combination of supply, and being able to check in early due to your international flight.

Basically the order for upgrades is determined by your status, credit card, when you check in, and maybe the phase of the moon.

You got lucky, maybe not much demand on that domestic flight. Before pandemic, I traveled lots for business, still am Platinum, have the highest level credit card, and I was upgraded nearly every flight, including to Comfort Plus on international. But still, every once in a while, I would be 10 people deep on the upgrade list.

Priority boarding makes sense. If that last leg were domestic only, that too makes sense if there were nobody ahead of you. I think that in itself is quite lucky because to be silver and to be upgraded is unfortunately a rarity these days unlike 20 years ago.

It’s too bad it was only a 90 minute flight. I won’t pay for 1st class, so it was nice to see what it was like, even on a smaller plane.
