I originally just booked my tickets for regular seats, but have been thinking of this option more for our JFK to VEnice leg of our trip. I went to the website today and there are only 2 seats left for $99 each. I keep thinking for 4 inches more and 50% more recline that might be worth it. Has anybody paid for this and what did you think? DH is 5'9" tall, so wouldn't need the inches to fit properly...but I sure would like to be comfy. I don't know...this trip is so darn expensive to begin with!
Laughing, I posted on your TA topic too, but yes definitely buy the extra leg room. It is totally worth it for the long leg of your journey. I'm 5'6" (or less) and yes it makes a difference. There are a few more amenities, but that is not important to me whereas the space is.
Haha!! I use this forum and TA, and those are the only two travel forums. I just put another question on TA. I've also emailed my husband. I suppose those people who booked behind us could see that the Preferred seating is there...or maybe the map of the plane on Seatexpert.com is an older one. I just think for $99 and wanting to sleep (it's a red eye), it would be worth it.
Coming back is a longer trip..but it's during the day and we would just cut corners there.
For $99, heck yes, it's worth it. You said it yourself, the whole trip is expensive, so why not splurge that little bit to make the flight over more comfortable. For $300 I wouldn't do it, but for $99 I would.
Lulu, the extra room is more than worth it. Might be the best $99 you will spend. We will not fly any long haul routes unless we can get the seats with the extra space.
I just checked with DH and he said fine, so I went and upgraded! The seats I don't think are PS+, so hope our extra incline won't irritate them...but there are still many seats available on this flight. they could have chosen ones that weren't behind PS.
Well, I'm pleased. Just wish we could get them on the way home, but I won't push the issue.
I also changed our seats coming back. After reading seatguru.com, it showed one of our seats was undesirable as it was too close to the bathrooms (and people complain of the smell and everyone standing in the aisle). NOt happy to be in row 35..as I booked early enough last year to have better seats, but that's my fault. Still...better away from that than by it I suppose.
Last year we had Delta Economy Plus but had to change our return the day before coming back. DH was in the last row of Economy Plus, the only upgraded seat available, while I was behind him in Economy, but on the aisle. I definitely had the better flight. Not only did he feel squashed, but he also had to ask the passenger behind him to stop kicking the seat. DH is not a picky flyer, but he complained about this flight. So, it's not always better.
Why did he feel squashed in Economy Plus when he had more room?
One of the perks will now be that you're closer to the front of the plane. Grab your carry-on and enjoy a few extra minutes in beautiful Venice while others are waiting in lines!
I would agree with others - the extra leg room really makes a difference. Also, it's a good idea to get up at least every 2 hours when you're awake to help your legs not feel cramped when you arrive.
I always try to get economy comfort on Delta. It's better to fly like a sardine than an anchovy. Seriously, the extra legroom makes a difference. I'm 5'2".
While it pisses me off to pay extra for what should be standard seat spacing, I do spend the $99 each way for Economy Comfort.
Boarding through the swanky First Class cabin on my way back to coach is just a little bit of torture before an overseas flight.
I really don't like the airlines. They take a perverse pleasure in making their (non-First Class) passengers uncomfortable.
I think it's just horrible how they shortened the legroom the last few years. Honestly, who a ARE these terrible people!
Lulu, He felt squashed because he was in a middle seat. The increased space is for the knees, not the elbows and shoulders. I had less knee room in the row behind him but was on an aisle. That's why the upgrade may or may not be better. We always upgrade but in this case it wasn't worth it for him. Frankly, I think these airlines are outrageous no matter what. Looking at the tiny space between rows makes me wonder if passengers could evacuate quickly in an emergency.
Had the opportunity to buy Economy Plus on our last trip but per SeatGuru the only ones still available had "limited recline" -- so we kept the money and got regular economy aisle seats in different rows. Sometimes "better" isn't really better.
