Delta from JFK or United from Newark?

Update: thanks for the suggestions….looks like renting cars one way to/fr Newark would be much cheaper than long term parking for 3.5 weeks— thanks for the suggestions!!

Now I need to try to figure out whether to book fully refundable tickets now or continue to watch for lower fares (still working out exact travel dates so can’t do anything immediately). There’s one nonstop daily each way. Anyone know what a good price would be (May, so probably high season) for Polaris one way to Rome and economy or premium economy on the return from Milan? On the trip we had to cancel in 2022 we would have paid $2200/ticket. Now I’m seeing $3340 with economy return or $3900 with premium economy return. Is this a good deal or should I watch and wait? Thanks!

Our usual practice to drive to a major airport (we live in the middle of nowhere) so that we can fly non-stop direct to Europe. The past two (pre-Covid) trips we flew out of Toronto, but that's not a good option this trip. If you've flown out of Newark and/or JFK, what are the pros and cons? What should I know about long term (3+ week) parking?
Also, if you've recently flown internationally on Delta and/or United, what are the pros and cons of each? We are planning to splurge and fly United Polaris or Delta One (select? not sure what the difference between Delta One and Delta One Select is) on the red eye to Italy, and then fly economy or economy plus on the return. So if you have experience with Polaris and/or Delta One Select, I'd love your opinions on these as well. Thanks!

I would look into a one way rental car. Probably cheaper and not have to worry about what might happen to your car.

Polaris is a better product than Delta One particularly if Delta’s aircraft on your flight is any of the 767s. A330s are better.

EWR has not only airport-owned parking but also many private sector ones from which to choose. JFK might too; I just don’t know.

Tom, thanks for the link to flyer talk— I didn’t know about it!
Joe, the rental car is definitely worth investigating. Might not be affordable (especially for the return trip, as companies don’t like their cars languishing in the boondocks) but I love the idea of leaving our car at home in the garage!
The delta planes im seeing are 330s. But it’s a long way out and they could easily change planes so it’s good to know some of the delta flights aren’t as nice as Polaris.
Thanks everyone!

On international, non-stop flights to Europe out of Seattle I‘ve flown all of the Delta options: Delta One (lay flat seat), Delta Premium Select (similar to domestic 1st class with extra legroom, recline and seat width), Delta Comfort+ (extra leg room and recline) and Main Cabin. It’s been maybe 10 years since I last flew United internationally so nothing to add there.

Both my husband and I were lukewarm on Delta One. Everything was great except neither one of us found the lay flat seat comfortable enough to sleep. I don’t recall exactly which model of airplane we were on but it was a newer Airbus with the sliding door to our “suites”. It’s possible we were both just too excited to sleep flying 1st class to Paris after 2 years stuck at home. Or we’re both just super finicky sleepers? I certainly enjoyed the service and extra perks. I know that others swear by it, so it’s worth trying on the flight over. If I found a smoking deal, I might try it again.

Premium Select is our preference for price and just enough comfort. Since this seat class has been “discovered“ by more travelers, the current prices aren’t as good compared to last year. Comfort+ is good for the daytime return trip home. I have sworn off Main Cabin international and domestic on any airline.

We flew Delta One last year from Atlanta to Milan on a Boeing 767. I slept great (the Prosecco and melatonin, may have helped). My husband was comfortable but did not sleep; however he is an insomniac (truly, no sarcasm). We are flying JFK to Rome next month on premium select (Airbus A330). We looked at the premium seats last year and felt like they would be fine for us on future trips—husband is unlikely to sleep regardless, and I will probably be fine-if I am tired, I could sleep on bricks— will let you know in October.
