Delta Economy Comfort

I'm rather tall so this class is probably a good deal despite the cost - but is it? Looking at long haul flights and wondering if anyone has used this upgrade option and did you think it was worth it.

Yes, I used this on my May trip to and from Spain. And yes, it was well worth it! The price seemed minimal to me ($80) for the difference in comfort.

Great. My knees are usually almost touching the seat in front of me and that's before my fellow traveler reclines. Yikes.

We used it on a trip to France last fall. I probably wouldn't pay for it if it was just me (I'm 5' 5"), but my husband who is 6' 2" thought it was totally worth it. He thought it made a big difference.

United Economy Plus (which is basically the same thing) is why I flew that airline quite a bit (at least until Continental took them over). The extra inches are worth it for just about anyone.

Friends of ours actually have bought three seats across to have some wiggle room which needless to say more expensive than this option. Heaven help you if you are both big and tall. (Fortunately or otherwise I'm skinny and tall.)

Marie, I have tentatively booked an Economy Comfort seat with KLM for my next trip, which I'm sure will be very similar to that offered by Delta. Apparently, KLM reservations are handled by Delta so that's why I believe the seating system will be much the same. Unfortunately, they won't or cant' confirm my seating choice until shortly before the flight when they "open up" the seat selektion. I'll probably have to wait until check-in to determine if I actually got the seat I chose (and presumably paid for). As I recall, the additional cost was Cdn$201, so I'll be VERY annoyed if they've charged my credit card and I don't get the seat! Cheers!

We are short; but, nevertheless, we found the extra 4 or 5 inches made a noticeable difference in our comfort level on a recent trip to Italy. We mitigated the cost by buying the upgrade on our JFK/FCO leg only, not on the domestic portion and not on the return flight. Otherwise, it would have been $80 x 4 x 2, approaching big bucks. Thinking about how miserable I, at 5'1", am on long haul flights, I marvel that anyone much taller can bear them. I will do it again, unless, of course, the airlines make the cost prohibitive.

Totally worth it. Caveatthe "extra leg room" claimed by the airline can vary from aircraft to aircraft. You might want to look up the flight number on seatguru.com and see what the pitch difference is between economy and economy plus on your plane, as well as what other amenities you get, before you commit to purchasing the tickets.

I did look up my seats on Seat Guru so am happy with my selection. We're in row 14 which the last of the Economy Comfort rows. Those poor people in row 15 are in deep doo doo if we recline all the way back (we won't). Still, word to the wise avoid sitting behind the last row of any Economy Comfort style seating.

Ken, I'm not sure why it would work differently than what I experienced. When my flight was booked, I just went in and selected the upgraded seat (months in advance of the flight). My credit card was charged at the time of "purchase" and never changed, except when I moved my return seat myself. Hopefully you won't have a problem. My tickets were purchased in January for my May trip, and I got to select the seat right then (even before I upgraded).

I did book the "upgrade" with Delta and we're flying next week. I'll post an if I think of it after the trip. The extra room was appealing. Also, early boarding can make a big difference (having your carry-on in your own overhead compartment instead of rows back). The clincher was unlimited free alcohol. Makes it easier to sleep on the plane.

"Economy Comfort" Quite the oxymoron. The marketing guys who named that must have been doubled-over laughing.

@Nancy, It appears that Delta and KLM may handle the booking of "Economy Comfort" seats differently, even thought they use the same booking system (my ticket says "Booking Agent - Delta"). I stopped by the Travel Agent the other day, and she called the airline to find out what was happening. They said they wouldn't be able to confirm the seat until "seat selektion is opened up" (this was two weeks or less before the flight). I checked my online banking a few minutes ago, and they have now charged my credit card so I'm assuming I have the seat. I'll see what happens when I check-in for the flight. This is the first time I've tried "Economy Comfort" with KLM, so I'll reserve judgement on whether it's worth the extra cost until after I've actually tried it. That will have a bearing on whether I'm willing to pay the extra cost for the return flight. Cheers!

Realize this is different airline, but have flown economy plus on two airlines, and it is totally worth the cost to me ,,, sorry I go insane on 12 hour flights with no room at all. I do not care about food being about the same etc as econ.. I just need that extra room.

Marie, Non stop Atlanta to Venice. Definitely worth it even though we are only 5-7 and 5-2. $60 extra apiece but money well spent. TC

We used Delta economy comfort from FRA to DTW, the long leg of our return trip to PDX about two weeks ago. We paid $119 per seat, but we upgraded only 2 or 3 weeks before our departure in late June. Worth it? That's hard to say. You have lots of folks saying yes, it's worth the extra expense. It comes out to about $13 per person per hour which doesn't seem real inexpensive.

On a 11-12 hour flight, absolutely worth the extra leg room. Haven't flown Delta, but United Plus gives an extra 5 " makes the long flight more tolerable. Also try to get aisle seats so you can get up and move around without worrying about waking someone up. Last trip to Europe my husband and I sat across the aisle from each other.
