Delta E-credit Question

We had Delta e-credits that were set to expire in May of this year. We used them to purchase tickets in March for travel this October. We had to cancel the October trip and while we received a refund for the price difference (new ticket less the e-credit) it seems we've lost the e-credit. Reached out to Delta and they said they've been archived and as such are no longer valid. I can see some sense to this but was hoping there was some way to recover those credits. Anyone have any luck with a situation like this?

I'm pretty sure there's no way to get those back. You could try contacting Delta directly if there were extenuating circumstances, but they're pretty strict about the expiration dates on those e-credits.

Just an FYI, someone I know was in a somewhat similar circumstance, and instead of canceling their flight, they just modified it for the future, and they were still able to keep the eCredits. But once the flight is canceled after the expiration date, I think you're out of luck.

I am aware of the same go around that Mardee is in terms of rescheduling a ticket and saving your credit. I have not actually ever tried it and it won't help you here but it might help someone else.

But it might be worth another call to Delta. I am pretty loyal to that airline because of their approach to looking at extraordinary situations and treating them with humanity and kindness.

If you had a compelling story that caused these changes, it might be worth another try.

As I understand it Delta eCredits do not get extended. So if they had a May expiration date, they're expired even if you had used them in a timely fashion. You could try contacting Delta again, I'd start with the chat function and ask for a human customer service agent (the AI bot really cannot help you). Good luck.

In 2019, I had bought a ticket for my mother to visit me in 2020 (she lives abroad). Then COVID hit and she was unable to travel. They gave an e-credit (under her name, of course). I used that for a new ticket for her. But then we had some medical complications with a family member and she would not be able to travel for at least a year.
It took a few calls to Delta but they eventually refunded me the ticket as I explained I had no idea when and if my mother would be able to take a long international flight. Delta doesn't operate domestically where she lives. I was ready to submit a doctor notice but that was not needed, and I asked if they could transfer the e-credit to my name (which they claimed they couldn't do). So they just refunded me in cash.

The e-credits have expired so you can't get them back. Otherwise, people would book something just before the expiration date and then cancel to get the credit extended indefinitely and it doesn't work that way.

I'm a Delta Platinum Member and even with status they won't give me an extension on e-credits. I was actually kind of surprised to find out earlier this year that Southwest gives full refunds even without you having to pay extra for a refundable fare! (I had bought a ticket on SW for my son, but then had to cancel it.). I wish Delta would offer refundable fare without an extra fee, especially for loyalty members. That would be a nice perk.

Delta - and probably all the airlines - were much more lenient during Covid because of course they didn't want anyone traveling while sick and they knew how uncertain things were with the pandemic going on.
