Delta Buddy Passes for Transatlantic Flight

I'm planning to book an open jaw flight to and from Europe out of the Southeast US very soon. I'm looking at a mid-May, weekday departure with a mid-June, weekday return. Flying into London and out of Amsterdam or possibly London. My aunt was a flight attendant with Delta for 35 years and thus has access to Buddy Passes (which I think are basically standby tickets for friends and family). My general question is, does anyone have experience successfully using a buddy pass for flights to Europe in the early summer? I'm afraid that all of the flights would be full and I would get stuck. I am traveling with 2 other people. If anyone could comment on typical occupancy vs. capacity for Delta flights to LON in May or from AMS in June, that would be great too. (I think the pass would only be worth it if I applied it to my entire journey, seeing as the prices on Kayak for the one-way trips are currently through the roof.)
