Delta Airlines carry-on restrictions

Has anyone recently (as in the last month) flown with Delta overseas? I know they have a 1 carry-on limit - but can a bag that's similar to the RS Hide-away tote be considered a "personal item"? I would be brining my RS rollaboard and that hide-away tote. (flying Atlanta to Venice)
thanks!

I traveled Delta last month and had my rolling carry one and a pacsafe metro 200 messenger type bag. It was not a problem. You are allowed your carry on plus a personal item and the hide-away bag is not that big you should be fine.

Hazel, I'm looking at the RS Hide-Away tote, and the dimensions are 22x8x16 inches, which is slightly larger than the RS Rollaboard. According to the Delta website, you are allowed a carry-on, not to exceed 22x14x9 inches, and one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, diaper bag, laptop bag, something of a similar size, or smaller, so anything measuring much larger than those items may not be permitted as a personal item. I would suggest calling Delta to get a definitive answer. Word of caution: Members of our family flew Delta from Atlanta last Saturday to their home in Europe, and the airline was really strict on the weight and measurements of their checked bags. They went over by 1 lb. on one bag, and 3 lbs. on another (they were weighed just before leaving for the airport, and didn't exceed the 50 lb. limit, but apparently the scales were not accurate) and were about to be charged $160 extra weight charge for just 4 lbs. over, so they purchased another bag in the airport to lighten their load. Just to be safe, I would measure the tote bag you have and call Delta, rather than have any last-minute surprises.

To clarify... I just called Delta because we are flying from Greater Cincinnati to Paris at the end of September. On all Trans-atlantic flights you may have 2 checked bags... not to exceed 50 pounds each. I think someone said 1 checked bag. Also, one carry-on not to exceed 40 pounds or 45 inches plus one small personal item. This has always been their policy and they have not changed it in a long time. Your carry-on must fit in the overhead or under the seat.

Has anyone ever had a carry on that weighed more than 40 pounds? I can't imagine that much weight in a carry on. Mine usually weighs around 15 pounds which may vary by 2-3 pounds at the most. This includes the weight of the bag plus contents.

Jane, So sorry my comment lead to any confusion...should have checked the policy on the checked bags. I believe I got the incorrect info (which I've deleted) from my family who just flew out on Saturday. You are correct in reporting that Delta allows two free checked bags on it's flights outside the U.S. After looking over the Checked Baggage info on the Delta website, there are quite a number of variations to the checked baggage regulations, so travelers would need to read carefully (and not listen so much to others.) LOL
