Delta airlines cancelled my flight

I used miles to book a rt biz class flight from lax to fco departing on July 1. I booked through the delta app flying virgin Atlantic from lax to lhr and then Alitalia from lhr to fco. I was randomly looking at my trip on the app and saw that my virgin flight has been canceled from lax to lhr. Alitalia flight still looks good. Did not get an email from delta just a notice on the reservation that my flight has been cancelled and I can cancel my ticket for a credit as they (delta) was not able to find a replacement flight. Called delta but there is a 9 hour wait. I do NOT want to cancel my flight. I still want to go to Italy on July 1. I did a search for flights and there are a ton of options for a paid ticket but nothing available for a mileage ticket. Is delta required to put me on a flight using my miles since the flight was cancelled on their end?

Are you calling the Skymiles number? 800-323-2323? That's who you should be talking to. They might be able to help better than general reservations. But if they can't get you on another flight, they will refund your miles to your account. They are not required to get you on another flght.

What country's passport on you holding? If USA, you might not be able to enter Italy without a two week quarantine. That's as of today. And if that is the case on July 1, they won't even let you on the plane.

My friends, traveling Delta Chicago to Munich July 16th did not get notification about a canceled flight either. The flight just disappeared from the app and their account. You will need to call Delta, it took one friend 3.5 hours but you can do the wait back call as a prior reply mentioned. You will get points and any taxes paid back to your account in about 10 days. Not sure of restrictions for U.S. passport holders to Italy - but you need to research if you can even get into the country. I know the UK just implemented a 14 days quarantine for all visitors.

Since they have just allowed Italians to leave their own provinces within Italy, I think it is unlikely they will allow Americans into Italy in July. I would check on current restrictions so you can consider your realistic options.

I also had a Delta flight that got changed without notification, mine to an impossible itinerary. In June I called Delta 5 times a day for 7 days straight without being able to get through. Then I tried Twitter private message to @Delta. It took 4 hours to get a reply, but once I did, I had an interchange with the representative that solved the problem totally for me within about 15 minutes.

I don't know why Delta did away with its callback option, but not once in those 7 days was I offered the option to have Delta call me back within X hours.

Good luck!

Are the "paid" options on a Delta partner? Delta may be able to rebook you on one of their partners (prepare for a LONG wait once you actually get a representative) . They will not rebook you on another carrier that they don't have a relationship with.

There is a very late flight on Alitilia that might work. You need to have the exact flight you want to be moved to make this as easy as possible.

I'd suggest trying to call at bizarre times (Late late late or early early early) They have tried to increase

I’m currently on hold now for a delta refund now! Hey, got through in 40 minutes. I think the Tuesday through Thursday tip is a good idea.

My husband works for Delta. They are not flying there right now and probably won't be for a little while. That's why they cancelled your flight. They have a tentative date to resume service to FCO on Sept. 1 and those will be from ATL and JFK.

I tried Twitter private message to @Delta. It took 4 hours

Use Twitter, @delta, send them the ticket number, res number, names, flights, and what you want (redeposit of miles, no penalty). Then wait and you will see it done in 24 hours.

I actually set up a Twitter account just to cancel Delta flights, since the phone was a disaster.

People on FT are also reporting some success with calling the Singapore customer service number at 65-6336-3371

As for rebooking, they can force inventory space for an award ticket on their own flights but can only politely ask partners to open up award inventory space if it's partner metal with no guarantee of success. (I'm not sure how the Delta-FB-VA joint venture impacts forcing award inventory and such on partner metal)

Doesn’t matter if you don’t want to cancel your trip to Rome, and it doesn’t matter if there are plenty of flights, what does matter is that the EU is not going to let you in until they say OK. It stinks

Well found out today that the Twitter option has been "temporarily suspended," and when calling there was no way to wait or leave a callback number, it just tells you to call back another time and hangs up. Bummer.

That has been my experience, too: Twitter messages no longer work and if you call, a recorded message is played and then the call is terminated. With the length of the shutdown and the closing of borders, I assumed that things would be getting better by now, but they are getting worse.

And I assumed that shortages of paper products and liquid bath soap would be getting better, also, but not really. Can't free enterprise provide consumer products in high demand anymore? I haven't seen Kleenex brand tissue for sale in 3+ months.

I did get through on the Delta refund line this morning after waiting 2-1/4 hours so all set I hope for covid travel cancellation stuff, except for the lawsuit for my son's tour refund.

Tom, in my neck of the country, paper products - TP, paper towels and tissues have started to come in plentiful in super stores and big markets.

Still no disinfecting wipes in the big box stores. Although there is plenty of the cleansing wipes for face, etc., baby wipes, flushable cleaning wipes, etc. (Personally, I was stocked before all this and just got more before demand went military commando.)

Pinesol liquid and the generic versions are still available in many stores including the Dollar Tree.

Limits are either 1 or 2 of the same cleaning / paper product. Same with some meats in the markets. (No limits on mac 'n cheese or those killer sodium laced ramen noodles soups, lol)

Don't mean to be pessimistic but I have seen these temporary restockings-- they don't last, the shortages just recur.
