Definition please: Trenitalia ES* vs

Under "train category" on the Trenitalia site there is an ES* or an "A" symbol. I guess, "Eurostar regular vs Alta Velocità" Can someone tell us what the difference is? Going from Rome to Florence. Thanks.

For a description of ES* and Alta Velocita (high velocity), click here. It appears that Alta Velocita is a higher speed version of EuroStar, which is pretty high speed to start with.

We travel ofen to Firenze by train from Termini. There is NOT much difference in these trains (some people cannot tell them apart from the exterior). They both take about 1:36 - 1:40 to make the run from Roma-Firenze. Both are quite comfortable. You can book either and you will be given assigned seating! Good Luck!
