i logged into the db website, posted my departure city (Madrid) and arrival city (Amsterdam) and the site came back saying there were no trains to those places. what am i doing wrong?
I can easily see the train runs on www.bahn.de. Here's a LINK to what I see. The journey takes about 25 hours with 3-5 train changes. You would be on AVE trains in Spain, TGV trains in France and the Thalys train from Paris to Amsterdam. Have you considered flying on a budget airline? I see direct flights on EasyJet, Iberia Express and Vueling. 2hrs40min for the flight. I also see fares as low as $69 on EasyJet.
Did you really use the Bahn website? RailEurope's site doesn't show a
connection, but the Bahn does. If you are using the Bahn site, it will give you multiple options for both Madrid and for Amsterdam. Make sure you pick Amsterdam Central and Madrid Puerta de Atocha.
Also if you were looking out more than 90 days the schedule might not be there. Just look at the same day of week next week as schedule change very little from one period to another.
